Abstract

This study was designed to classify the patients in PICU with Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System (TIES) and to identify the characteristics according to patients class.
The data were collected on 222 patients admitted into PICU from July 1 to October 18 in 1986.
The tool used for classifying the pediatric critical patients was the T.I. S. S. revised by Keene.
All of the data were analyzed by percentage -distribution, one-way ANOVA (p<0.05), and Scheffe test (p<0.05).
The results of this study were summarized as follows:
1) The distribution of the subjects by age
showed a marked predominance of infants.
2) The mortality rate W, Is 7. 20 on an average.
Contrary to popular belief, the mortality rate
among cardiovascular patients was only ~ 9
as compared to 14.90¢¥ among, other
surgical patients.
3) Average period of staying in fCU was 5.2 days. Nonsurvivors stayed in ICU longer than survivors.
4) Nonsurvivors had higher admission TISS, maximum TISS, mean TISS, and discharge TISS scores than Survivors.
5) On comparing among the 3 services, cardiovascular surgery patients had higher TISS scores than either medicine or other surgery patients.
